49ers trade for DL help at trade deadline buzzer

The San Francisco 49ers made a move in the final moments of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

According to Athletic's Dianna RussiniThe 49ers are giving the Houston Texans a 2026 seventh-round pick for defensive tackle Khalil Davis.

It's no big surprise that the 49ers and Texans have agreed to a trade. They also agreed to a deal that sent DT Maliek Collins to San Francisco in the offseason.

Davis, a sixth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of Nebraska in 2020, bounced around the league a few times before finding a home in Houston last season.

As a rookie with the Buccaneers, Davis only played in two games. The next year he appeared in just one game with the Indianapolis Colts before being released midway through the season.

In 2022, Davis was on the practice squad of the Steelers, Buccaneers and Rams.

The Texans signed him during the 2023 preseason and he ended up playing 15 games for them. He recorded 2.0 of his 3.0 career sacks. This year, he added another by contributing in all nine of Houston's games.

Davis is unlikely to make much of an impact, but he will fit as a rotational center back, where San Francisco has been thin on the ground since the demise of DT Javon Hargrave. It's a nice move for the 49ers to add depth for the price of a future seventh-round pick.
