It's been a difficult start to the season for the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers, who meet on Wednesday night at the Intuit Dome in a duel of teams missing their stars.

Philadelphia has relied heavily on Tyrese Maxey to carry the offensive load, and my 76ers vs. Clippers predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, November 6th expect that to continue.

76ers vs Clippers prediction

My best choice
Tyrese Maxey over 27.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
After his first All-Star appearance last season and Most Improved Player honors, Tyrese Maxey ranks third in the league in points per game (30.2) and essentially represents the entire Philadelphia 76ers offense.

Maxey is coming off a 32-point performance against the Phoenix Suns after scoring 45 points in the 76ers' only win of the season against the Indiana Pacers last week. His effort is key to Philly staying afloat without Embiid.

He knows it too, based on how often he pulls from deep. Maxey leads the league in 3-point attempts (11.8), and that should come in handy as the Los Angeles Clippers team shoots the sixth-most three-pointers per game and the fourth-highest 3-point percentage (38.1% ) allows.

When he's not pulling from deep, Maxey regularly reaches the charity stripe and ranks 11th in the league in both free throws attempted per game (7.3) and free throws made per game (6.0).

His penchant for fouls is ideal against a Clippers team in the top half of the league in free throws allowed per game (18.0).

Overall, it almost doesn't matter how Maxey spins because his volume is just so absurd. He is the only player in the NBA to take more than 25 shots per game (25.3), and he has the 16th highest usage rate of players who play at least 20 minutes per game (30.6%).

He also leads the league with 41 minutes per game, almost four minutes more than Mikal Bridges, who is second in the league with 37.2 minutes.

Although the Clippers' defense has been strong despite the loss to Kawhi Leonard, I expect Maxey to maintain his pace, averaging 33 points per game over his last four games.

Same game between 76ers and Clippers

Tyrese Maxey Over 27.5 points

James Harden Over 9.5 assists

Ivica Zubac Over 11.5 rebounds

With Embiid and Leonard out, this game will be all about the guard play of Maxey and James Harden. Like Maxey, Harden has taken on an even larger role following the departure of the team's franchise player.

He's not far behind Maxey in usage rate (29.6%) and his playmaking ability looks as good as ever. While reaching double-digit assists is a tall order, Harden is averaging third in the league per game (9.9) and has had more than 10 assists in four of his last six games.

Philadelphia's defense has also been lackluster this season, ranking 21st in defensive rating (117.2) and allowing the eighth-most assists per game in the league (27.0). Another division that has been struggling is recovering despite being without Embiid.

The 76ers rank second-to-last in rebounds per game (39.8) and allow the sixth-most per game (46.8). That's perfect for Ivica Zubac, who is second in the league in rebounds per game (13.0) and has grabbed more than 12 rebounds in six straight games.
