Yankees' Aaron Boone explains why he didn't move Aaron Judge in the lineup

When you're down 3-0 in the World Series, any lineup changes are on the table.

That's what New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone had to decide before Tuesday night's crucial Game 4 in the Bronx.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Boone revealed that one possible change to the lineup would be to move Aaron Judge to the top spot. Judge's struggles have been well-documented this postseason, with the AL MVP favorite hitting just .140 in the team's 12 playoff games. Judge struck out seven of 12 at-bats in three World Series games against the Dodgers while yielding just one hit in the Series.

Moving to leadoff would be a drastic change, especially considering Judge has only scored from that position 36 times in his career. Instead, Boone decided to keep Gleyber Torres at the plate for Game 4. The second baseman has proven effective so far this postseason with 13 hits and 10 walks.

For Game 4, Judge will remain in his usual third spot in the lineup behind outfielder Juan Soto. Beyond Judge, Boone decided to trade Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the cleanup spot, which would push red-hot Giancarlo Stanton down to fifth in the rankings. Of the lineup changes, Boone attributed the changes to the Dodgers using their bullpen in Game 4.

By switching Chisholm and Stanton, the Yankees will have alternating right-handed and left-handed hitters in eight of the nine spots in the lineup. The only other change to the starting line-up is catcher Austin Wells replacing Jose Trevino.

Boone also stated that top pitcher Gerrit Cole will be unavailable out of the bullpen on Tuesday night. Cole is expected to start Game 5 if needed, but Boone has confidence in the bullpen if rookie starter Luis Gil struggles early.
