The San Francisco Giants are reportedly set to promote Zack Minasian from vice president of professional scouting to general manager.

Nightengale added that Minasian will join his brother, Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minasian, in making MLB history as they will be the first brothers to simultaneously serve as general managers for different MLB teams.

The Giants' GM role became vacant last month as part of the organization's front office reshuffle.

Farhan Zaidi, who had been the Giants' president of baseball operations since late 2018, left the organization and was replaced by former Giants catcher and three-time World Series champion Buster Posey.

Posey decided to leave Pete Putila, who had been the Giants' general manager since 2022.

Minasian spent 14 seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers organization before joining the Giants in 2019. In 2022, he was named vice president of pro scouting and is now slated to become the 11th official general manager in Giants history.

Perry Minasian has been the Angels' general manager since 2020, when he took over following the firing of Billy Eppler. He signed a two-year contract extension in August, even though he had not yet led the Angels to the playoffs.

As for the Giants, Zack Minasian takes the reins of a club that went 80-82 in 2024 and has now missed the playoffs in three straight seasons.

San Francisco has made just one playoff appearance in the last eight seasons, with an apparent outlier season in 2021 when the Giants reached the National League Division Series with a surprising 107-55 finish.

Minasian will try to get the Giants back to where they were from 2010 to 2014, when they won three World Series titles in five seasons.

Some of the most important immediate decisions for Minasian will involve deciding what to do with starting pitcher Blake Snell, outfielder Michael Conforto and second baseman Thairo Estrada.

They are all expected to enter free agency assuming Snell declines his player option for 2025 after posting a 3.12 ERA in 20 starts last season.

After narrowly failing to sign superstar outfielder Aaron Judge from the New York Yankees last offseason, the Giants could be among the key players in a free agent class this offseason that includes Juan Soto, Pete Alonso , Alex Bregman, Corbin Burnes and Max Fried.
