According to the latest SPC forecast, there is only a slight risk of severe storms for much of southern and eastern Alabama. Storms will likely heat up around midday and continue to move through the area into the evening hours. The biggest concern with these storms is the threat of damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out due to the high level of atmospheric instability. In addition to the threat of strong storms, rain will be expected across the state over the next few days as Helene moves toward the Gulf Coast.

In addition, a flood warning is in effect for several counties from 1 p.m. today through Friday morning. Prepare for a lot of rain over the next two days and be alert when traveling! Flash floods can occur very quickly and are especially dangerous when they affect roads. Do not drive on roads that appear to be flooded.

Stay tuned, we will continue to monitor these storms throughout the day!
