US News publishes ranking of the best universities 2025

The latest edition focuses on social mobility and success after graduation.

WASHINGTON, 24 September 2024 /PRNewswire/ — U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on education rankings, today announced The best universities 2025. The national rankings serve as a guide for prospective students and their families, evaluating nearly 1,500 colleges and universities on up to 17 criteria of academic quality. This year's edition continues to emphasize social mobility and post-graduation success.

More than 50% of an institution's ranking goes into various outcome criteria related to its success in enrolling and graduating students from all backgrounds with manageable debt levels, as well as postgraduate earnings.

The best colleges 2025 methodology is calculated using up to 17 key measures of academic quality for national universities and 13 indicators for national liberal arts colleges, regional universities, and regional colleges. The formula uses data that can be reported generally by schools or obtained from third-party sources. Eligibility of schools for the rankings is not dependent on participation in U.S. News surveys.
