Source – Norv Turner returns to the Raiders as offensive consultant

HENDERSON, Nev. – Former Raiders coach Norv Turner, who has also been a head coach for two other franchises and an offensive coordinator for seven others, is joining the Raiders in an advisory role on offense, a source confirmed.

The Raiders were on a five-game losing streak and fell to 2-7 entering their bye week. After Sunday's 41-24 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals, they fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.

Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said Monday he will “use the next 24 to 48 hours” to decide on a new offensive player and that Turner's son, Scott Turner, is a leading candidate. The younger Turner is the Raiders' passing game coordinator and was Washington's offensive coordinator from 2020-2022.

The Raiders also have two other former O-coordinators on the team: receivers coach Edgar Bennett and senior offensive assistant Joe Philbin.

Norv Turner, 72, joins a team with plenty of experience that is expected to support Pierce in his first full season as an NFL head coach.

Also on Pierce's staff: Philbin, 63, who was head coach of the Miami Dolphins for four years; assistant head coach Marvin Lewis, 66, who coached the Bengals for 16 seasons; and two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Tom Coughlin, 78, who served as an adviser to Pierce.

Turner observed a Raiders training camp in Costa Mesa, California, in August.

In the NFL, Turner was head coach for Washington (1994-2000), the Raiders (2004-05) and the Chargers (2007-12). He was O-Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (1991-93), Chargers (2001), Dolphins (2002-03), San Francisco 49ers (2006), Cleveland Browns (2013), Minnesota Vikings (2014-16) and Panthers ( 2018-19), where he previously worked with his son Scott.

NFL Network first reported that Turner had joined the Raiders.
