Why Rudy Salas is the leader Latinos need

As Latinos in California, we know what it means to fight for our families, dignity and future. We work hard, support each other, and strive for ways to make life better for everyone. I am supporting Rudy Salas for Congress in District 22 because he has lived through our same struggles, understands our challenges, and has proven that he will stand up for us in words and actions.

He's not just any politician. He is one of us. Rudy was born and raised in California. As a child, he worked with his family in the fields and in construction. He knows the daily grind, the sacrifices and the perseverance that define the Latino experience in this state.

In 2010, Rudy made history when he became the first Latino elected to the Bakersfield City Council in its 112-year history. As a member of the State Assembly, he supported policies that create good-paying jobs, expand access to health care and ensure our children have the resources they need to succeed.

Rudy was a passionate advocate for fair and equitable immigration reform. He understands that immigration reform is not just about legal status, but also about dignity, economic stability and the future of our communities.

Salas has also vowed to be an advocate for greater benefits for the working class with a comprehensive plan for worker protections, affordable health care and educational opportunities.

As a true champion for our community, Salas will ensure our voices are heard loud and clear in Washington, DC

What is at stake?

This election is about only one issue: saving democracy. If we fail to do this, there is no way to address other problems.

We should heed the words of Steve Earle, who introduced his version of “This Land Is Your Land” on Hardly Strictly Bluegrass last month with the following comment:

“The most important thing to remember is to definitely vote. Don't sit this out. It's too important. Don't waste your vote because it's math. It is not an expression of your political heart. It's fucking math, and there is a consequence.

“In this election, it is important to remember that your ballot is secret. This is a fundamental part of our democracy.

“You don’t have to tell your neighbors who you voted for. You don't have to tell your wife who you voted for. And most importantly, in this particular election, you don’t have to tell your husband who you voted for.”

Then, after fending off voter suppression, Trump, MAGA, local militias, right-wing state governments, multiple lower court challenges, and the Supreme Court, let's work like hell to get a Harris administration to focus on a progressive agenda that brings America back to the future people.

More perfect and fairer union

African Americans have believed in the promises of America since they arrived in the New World, North America, in 1526. Before we received our full citizenship after the Civil War, we always fought for our civil and economic freedoms.

After gaining citizenship, our fight for freedom has always been to create a more perfect, multiracial, multiethnic, multicultural, diverse, and gender inclusive democratic America.

The fact that a multicultural African American woman is running for president under the Democratic Party banner clearly shows that African Americans are not leaving America. We are still fighting for a more perfect and just union.

Wall archiving

I have suggested that journalists and photographers archive Fresno's murals as cultural landmarks, focusing on the perceived whitewashing or defacement of art throughout the city. We have lost many murals because they were painted over by building owners or the city (of Fresno). There has also been a significant depreciation in the value of the murals due to graffiti, seemingly ruining their cultural artifacts. I find that sad. Having studied art history in college, art is a driving factor in shaping society and culture and has been used as an artifact since time immemorial.

Middle East

The first proposal for the two-state solution, i.e. a separate Jewish and Arab state, was made in the 1937 report of the British Peer Commission.

It is long overdue that both Palestinians and Israelis return to and accept this proposal.

To those in Ireland and around the world who side with the terrorist organizations in southern Lebanon, Gaza and the Houthis in Yemen: How would you feel about the Israeli terrorist war if it could be clearly shown that all three of these organizations were involved are? their manifesto and their ideology the annihilation of the State of Israel from the face of the earth and the killing of Jews worldwide? Would your position change?

Israel is currently fighting a war on three fronts. It needs to stop and stop immediately. Otherwise, the planet may end up in a third world war.
