Jayson Tatum announces inexplicable pact with Derrick White after Hawks win

The Celtics entered Monday's game against the Hawks hoping to finish their four-game road trip strong. They did that and then some, dominating a 123-93 victory over the Hawks earlier this season to move to 7-1.

As part of the win, C's star Jayson Tatum wore a headband, a rare sight at this point in his career. Derrick White also wore a headband, and as it turns out, the combination of the two was actually intentional.

“I used to wear hand wraps a lot, but that's between me and D-White,” Tatum said, via NBC Sports Boston. “Where we did it a few times last year and the year before that. And we have an agreement between the two of us.

“On any given day, one of us will come in and say, 'Yo, we have to wear a hand wrap today,' the other one has to agree. I called today. So I’m waiting for him to tell me we have to wear a hand bandage next time.”

The next time Tatum and White both wear headbands, it will likely be because White has decided that's what they want to wear. The headband seemed to work well for Tatum on Monday — especially early on. Tatum scored 26 points in the first half, helping the Celtics to 75 points in the first half, including going 6-for-10 on 3-pointers. White scored 21 points, six rebounds and six assists, continuing his strong start to the season.

The Celtics have had a strong start to the season so far. There were some close games, but on Monday the C's won by double digits for the sixth time in eight games. This was also the first time this season that the Celtics won by at least 30 points. The C's will now face the Warriors on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in what should be a highly anticipated matchup.

“I’m just trying to read the game,” Tatum said. “We often score good shots for each other. I'm always on the field with some really talented guys. We know how to play off each other. So it’s just a matter of reading the game and trying to take advantage of whatever disadvantage they have or whoever we want to attack on defense.”
