Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes called on Adams to resign “for the good of the city.”

In the hours since news of Eric Adams's indictment broke, more and more politicians have publicly called for his resignation, including at least ten of the 51 members of the City Council.

The most prominent representative so far is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, who represents parts of the city in Congress and who called for Adams' resignation on social media “for the good of the city.”

“I don’t see how Mayor Adams can continue to govern New York City,” she wrote.

Lincoln Restler, a Brooklyn councilman, said that “no mayor can hold office while under indictment.”

“The only responsible course of action for New York City would be for Mayor Eric Adams to resign,” he added. “If he refuses, he must be removed from office… New Yorkers deserve so much better.”

At least six state senators and nine House members also called for his resignation, along with New York City Comptroller Brad Langer and former Comptroller Scott Stringer.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has not yet commented on the charges.

Adams has so far resisted all calls for his resignation.
