Ohio State shines in the running game, special teams flop against Marshall

Despite some sloppy moments in Saturday's game against the Marshall Thundering Herd, the Ohio State Buckeyes still pulled out a clear 49-14 win and improved their record to 3-0 on the year.

For the second consecutive year, the Ohio State Buckeyes dominated the field thanks to the running backs carrying the football, the offensive line, and even the tight ends and wide receivers blocking on every play.

The impressive performance against the Thundering Herd was a team effort that resulted in 280 rushing yards on 30 attempts.

Quinshon Judkins led the way with 14 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns, TreVeyon Henderson added two more touchdowns on six carries for 76 yards, and James Peoples finished the game with 31 yards on six carries.

In their last two games, the Buckeyes have rushed for 553 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.

It was a rough day for the special forces unit. Brandon Inniss botched a punt, but luckily for the Buckeyes it was called back and Marshall was penalized.

Inniss' botched punt was the smaller problem, however. Kicker Jayden Fielding had such problems with kickoffs that he had to sit on the bench in the second half.

In the first half alone, Fielding kicked the ball out of bounds three times. The three illegal handling penalties gave Austin Snyder a chance to play in the second half and he managed to put the ball in play.

This happened after Jayden Ballard made a big mistake on a kick return against Western Michigan.

The Buckeyes need to focus on improving their special teams play before their trip to Michigan State.

Ransom was the Buckeyes' leading tackler on the day with eight total tackles. In addition to the eight tackles, Ransom made one tackle for loss.

Although Ohio State's defense struggled to get off the field early in the game, they played better as the game went on against Marshall. Ransom played a big part in that.

Tuimoloau has been quiet to start this season and hasn't made much of an impact against the Thundering Herd. He has five tackles, one tackle for loss and 1.5 sacks in three games, with two tackles and one tackle for loss.

So far, he hasn't played like a first-round draft pick, but he has the talent to make a difference in any game.

Eventually, Tuimoloau will have a good game. Hopefully that will be as soon as possible when conference play begins.

Aside from the short pass to Jeremiah Smith that resulted in an interception, Will Howard looked calm in the pocket and got the football where it needed to go.

Howard was efficient, completing 16 of 20 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, as well as scoring a touchdown on the ground.

Even though Howard isn't putting up stellar numbers, he's doing everything that's asked of him as Ohio State's starting quarterback, and hopefully that bodes well for the rest of the season.
