Rams are linked to a trade for former first-round pick to replace Matthew Stafford

Given that Week 3 isn't even over yet, it's not quite time for NFL Trade Rumor SZN yet. But when has that ever stopped anyone? Time waits for there to be no trade rumors, and if you're not already thinking about midseason additions that could help your team get to the top, you're negligent. In the NFL, if you're on time, you're late.

ESPN knows this, which is why it has already outpaced everyone else with a large list of trade candidates and where they could head before the November 5th trade deadline. And what could be better than ending a far-too-early trade deadline discussion with an idea that doesn't really make sense to either side? They just couldn't help themselves and sent another failed NFL starter to Sean McVay in hopes that things would be different this time. The good news is that it's not Carson Wentz.

Possible landing site: Los Angeles Rams. With Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett behind Stafford on the depth chart, the Rams are missing a quarterback with a high level of development. It's fair to wonder if Wilson is, but if coach Sean McVay thought he could work with Wilson's game, who knows? The Dolphins, Steelers, Panthers and Titans could be other potential landing spots.

Zach Wilson finished the preseason third on a depth chart along with Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, so I'm not entirely sure what there is to salvage at this point, but it's a fun idea for any Madden franchise. If you watch this one (1) single combine throw often enough, you can sort of see the vision. It's not a good vision or even a vision that makes sense, but you can see it. Can Wilson even be considered a high-ceiling quarterback anymore?

I'm not sure why the Rams would trade for a QB when, as the article points out in the first sentence, they literally already have two on the roster. Trading a late-round pick for a guy who's definitely not good when you can just use that late-round pick for a guy who's still good Strictly speaking doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not an NFL GM. It's probably wise to just let Wilson be the Dolphins' problem and hope Stafford's arm lasts long enough to tread water until literally every other starter on the team comes off IR.
