Detroit Lions Terrion Arnold gets advice from New York Jets Sauce Gardner

Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold has drawn a lot of criticism for how aggressive he is with his hands in coverage.

In four games, Arnold was the target of much attention from officials and was penalized nine times. Against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Arnold incurred several nationally ranked defensive holding penalties.

In his first four games away from Alabama, Arnold was sacked a total of nine times.

There's a lot to like about his career, such as the way he plays as a run defender. However, the difficulties in avoiding contacts in politics are somewhat worrying. This is also likely a simple byproduct of adapting to officiating at a professional level.

While the entire soccer world was focused on Monday's game between Detroit and Seattle, many voices commented on the team's performance. In particular, the NFL's top cornerback, Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, gave Arnold some advice in a social media post.

Power Rankings: Detroit Lions are the funniest team in the NFL

“I think Arnold is too low in his press (man) stance. If it increases a little, that’s good money,” Gardner wrote on X.

Gardner has wasted no time becoming one of the best at his position in the entire NFL. Now in his third NFL season, Gardner has earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in each of his first two seasons. As a rookie in 2022, he had two interceptions and a league-leading 20 passes defended.

Gardner is a Detroit native and has excelled since entering the league from Cincinnati.

Rookie corners often struggle early in their NFL careers. Arnold has had moments, particularly when showcasing his physicality while running, but needs to continue to improve his technique.

Detroit's secondary overall struggled with penalties on Monday. In addition to Arnold, Carlton Davis III also drew three flags and shared with reporters watching the game his frustration with the way the game was officiated.
