Detroit King defeats Cass Tech in Michigan's high school football rivalry (09/20/2024)

The No. 9 Detroit King Crusaders (3-1) defeated the No. 7 Cass Tech Technicians (2-2) 18-12 in overtime at Cass Tech High School on Friday night in a showdown of Michigan's top 25 high school football teams.

Detroit King took a 12-0 lead with two touchdowns in the first quarter, but the Crusaders were unable to convert the PATs.

Cass Tech fought back with a safety, a field goal and a touchdown to tie the game. Cass Tech gave Detroit King a chance to win in regulation when they fumbled a punt and the Crusaders took control deep in Cass Tech territory. But Cass Tech's defense held firm and forced overtime.

In overtime, Detroit King scored on fourth down and short, but PAT problems persisted as Cass Tech blocked the attempt.

Cass Tech fell behind in overtime due to errors and was unable to get into the end zone.

Detroit King now leads the overall standings 39-34.
