In a nearly annual event, Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur will plan to defeat his brother, Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur, on Sunday.

Matt LaFleur, 44, was the Rams' offensive coordinator in 2017 under coach Sean McVay. Mike LaFleur, 37, is in his second season with the Rams.

“It's kind of old hat now,” said Mike LaFleur, who was previously on the coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets, about facing his brother. “Right now it feels like we play every year…” Aside from the challenge we have on Sunday, I’m just looking forward to seeing my nephew come to town.”

In 2023, the Packers defeated the Rams at Lambeau Field.

Mike LaFleur said he spoke with his brother earlier in the week but did not discuss any plans. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula probably thought more about Matt, Mike said.

“I think more about having to compete against the (defensive) staff that is really talented and athletic and runs the scheme that they run,” Mike said.

But what about extended family members?

“I don’t think my mom likes it,” Mike said, “but I said that last year, and I probably said that the year before that too.

“We play all the time. I think everyone is just getting used to it. I don't think anyone enjoys it that much. We have a job to do and we know what we want as a result.”

So when Matthew Stafford throws a long touchdown pass to Tutu Atwell on Sunday, how will Lafleur's mother react?

“My mom likes me more,” Mike joked, “so she cheers me on.”
