Baba Siddique NCP leader shot dead in Mumbai: What we know so far | India News

NCP chief Baba Siddique shot dead in Mumbai: What we know so far

Baba SiddiqueSenior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader died on Saturday after being shot outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office Bandra East.
The former Maharashtra minister suffered multiple bullet wounds before being admitted Lilavati Hospitalwhere he succumbed to his injuries.
The attack involved three unknown assailants and authorities are now investigating to uncover the motive and identify the perpetrators.

Here's what we know so far:

  • Two people arrested in Baba Siddiqui murder case. A 9.9 mm pistol was used in the shooting, it said Mumbai Police
  • Mumbai Police Additional Commissioner Parminder Singh Dahiya confirmed that the investigation has been handed over to the Crime Branch.
  • Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said one of the accused was from Uttar Pradesh and the other was from Haryana. He said the third accused was on the run.
  • I have given instructions to the police that no one should take the law into their hands in Mumbai. And the underworld should not rise up, said CM Shinde.
  • Maharashtra Home Minister and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and senior police officials have reached Lilavati Hospital.
  • Security was tightened as supporters of Baba Siddique gathered outside Lilavati Hospital.
  • Police have cordoned off the crime scene in Bandra East.
  • “The murder of Baba Siddique is a matter of concern. The government should form a special team and investigate the matter. There seems to be a big conspiracy. Strict action must be taken,” said BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.
  • “Mumbai Congress is deeply saddened by the demise of Baba Siddique Ji. His tireless service to the people and his commitment to the community will be remembered forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he be his soul rest in peace,” the Mumbai Congress, of which Baba Siddique was previously a member before joining the NCP, wrote on X.
  • “The news about Baba Siddique is very disturbing. The concern here is that the law and order situation in Maharashtra has really deteriorated and failed. The BJP-led Mahayuti must answer the people of Maharashtra why they have failed to make laws.” “People are taking the law into their own hands and feel free to do whatever they want because there is no fear before the law,” said Clyde Crasto, spokesman for Sharad Pawar's NCP.
