Raiders give the Pittsburgh Steelers opportunities for Davante Adams

PITTSBURGH – The Pitttsburgh Steelers have been trying to expand their wide receiver room all season long. There has recently been the possibility of winning a star in Davante Adams.

Adams, unhappy with the Las Vegas Raiders' prospects, hasn't played since Week 3.

After asking the Raiders for a trade, the Steelers almost immediately became the favorite.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the longer a deal doesn't get done, the longer it benefits the Steelers.

“The Steelers have strong interest in acquiring the All-Pro receiver,” Fowler said. “The people I've talked to feel like Las Vegas started with the Saints and Jets partly because Adams is interested in playing there. But the longer this goes on, the more things might open up for a team like Pittsburgh.” . Adams probably won’t be traded until next week at the earliest.”

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders are willing to wait out an Adams trade and could even try to keep him. If they're willing to wait, that only seems to help the Steelers.

“In a fluid and unpredictable situation that seems to be changing weekly, Davante Adams could remain with the Las Vegas Raiders rather than be traded, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter writes.

CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports that while the Raiders are trying to make a big deal out of it, they're just bluffing about keeping him.

“The team is publicly acting as if they can keep Adams for several more weeks and possibly until the trade deadline. But multiple sources around the league tell CBS Sports they believe the Raiders are just bluffing,” Jones writes.

Adams would be a welcome addition to the Steelers' wideout room, which lacks much firepower. However, a move suggested earlier this week that suggested that Pickens should be traded to the Raiders would not be advisable. They need to keep Pickens in any type of deal for depth and talent.

If a deal goes through, the Steelers would have a six-time Pro Bowl participant and a three-time All-Pro honoree on the team. He would likely be the best wide receiver the team has had since Antonio Brown and would allow them to diversify their offensive sets significantly more.

Other teams vying for Adams' services include the New York Jets, where a reunion with Adams' former quarterback Aaron Rodgers is possible. Another similar situation would be the New Orleans Saints, where a reunion of their college quarterback Derek Carr is taking place.

An Adams move seems possible, but Steelers fans shouldn't count on it being a certainty.
