What the Colts said about leaving the QB

What the Colts said about leaving the QB

Colts veteran center Ryan Kelly and head coach Shane Steichen said they had conversations with starting quarterback Anthony Richardson about Richardson tapping his helmet in the third quarter against Houston on Sunday to attempt a play on third-and-goal play.

Steichen said they talked about it in the quarterback meeting room this morning.

“I think it’s a learning moment for him,” Steichen said.

Kelly expressed confidence in Richardson's work ethic and leadership abilities, but also acknowledged it was a play that shouldn't have happened.

Richardson said after the game that he was tired and needed a breather.

“We've talked about it and I think he knows that's not the standard he has to live up to,” Kelly said. “I know he’s going to take a lot of criticism for this and rightly so, it’s not looking good.”
