A chilly weekend before a warmer work week

A chilly weekend before a warmer work week

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Temperatures in eastern Kentucky reached highs in the upper 50s and low 60s following a cold front overnight. In the last 24 hours, precipitation fell across the entire viewing area. This brought the monthly total to 0.18″, still well below the monthly average and on track to be the driest October in history.

HEADLINES:

  • Cool end to the weekend
  • The rollercoaster temperatures continue
  • A rainy Halloween?

DISCUSSION:

Sunday could be a near-average temperature day, with clear skies forecast. Temperatures will be about 10 degrees above average Monday through Wednesday before a front approaches on Thursday. Much-needed rain has fallen across the area over the past 24 hours. However, the total rainfall is still almost five centimeters below the average for October. A final chance of rain is expected towards the end of the month on Thursday. The rain is expected to continue through Friday afternoon, giving Eastern Kentucky a quick start to precipitation for the month of November.

LOOKING AHEAD:

Temperatures will be above average for the first week and a half of November, and the rest of the month looks set to be above average. The good news is the forecast increase in the chance of precipitation. This October may be the driest on record, but a wet start to November could help recovery.
