A Nostradamus poll says early returns are “scary” for his prediction of a Harris victory

Historian Allan Lichtman has admitted that the return of early voters was “very frightening,” despite having backed Kamala Harris to win the presidency for weeks.

During an online stream Tuesday evening, Lichtman and his son Sam Lichtman provided live updates as early counts showed gains for Donald Trump, admitting several times that the initial numbers were not ideal for the vice president.

The American political historian is known as the “Nostradamus” of elections for successfully predicting the last nine out of ten presidential elections since 1984. He has consistently supported his original prediction that Harris would win in 2024.

However, as more results came in, Lichtman admitted that the data was “very scary” and later admitted that “it didn't look good” when they examined the North Carolina race.

“I've definitely lost hope that she'll win in a landslide, but I haven't lost hope that she will win,” his son replied.

One of Lichtman's strongest reactions came around 10:30 p.m. ET, after projections showed Trump would win 51 percent of the Hispanic vote in Pennsylvania.

“What? That's not possible,” he exclaimed. “The world is upside down, that's all I can say.” A few minutes later, after checking the status of the US Senate race, Lichtman added He added that there was “nothing positive for Harris yet” – he massaged his temples.

His method for predicting the race so accurately in previous election cycles is known as “The Keys to the White House,” a system he developed in 1981 with Russian academic Vladimir Keilis-Borok.

The scientist has defended his method, which examines 13 factors, from the position of the president's party in the House of Representatives to the health of the domestic economy to scandals, social unrest or foreign policy disasters during their time in office and the comparative charisma of the two candidates decide the winner , where the label “true” or “false” is used for each category.

During Tuesday's broadcast, the Lichtmans thanked a number of trolls for donating to their livestream while also claiming that the “keys were wrong.”

In an earlier broadcast, Lichtman assured viewers to “ignore the polls” and continue to believe in his method. “The keys to the White House don’t change,” he said.

However, the historian had previously revealed that he believed there was “more election anxiety this year” than ever before and that he experienced more “hate” in the 2024 cycle.

“Many people believe that the future of the country is at stake here and that America's democracy could be a thing of the past. I don’t think that’s an illegitimate fear,” he said.

“I'm so worried about the future of our election, you know, I think I've said this before – democracy is precious, but like all precious things, it can be destroyed.”
