A taste of winter arrives in Colorado on Wednesday

DENVER – Bundle up, Colorado! Cool changes are coming! A storm will continue to move across the highlands through Wednesday, bringing rain to the valleys and heavy snow to higher ground.

A winter weather advisory for 6 to 12 inches of new snow above 9,000 feet is in effect for most of Colorado's mountains until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A cold front could bring a slushy rain/snow mix to the Denver metro area early Wednesday.

Little to no snow accumulation is expected for the urban corridor and plains, but travel in the mountains could be treacherous at times through Wednesday.

Temperatures will be significantly cooler around the city on Wednesday, reaching the low to mid 40s as the storm slowly moves out of the state. Blow out your sprinklers now!

This storm will leave behind clear skies, so there will be bitterly cold temperatures through Halloween morning. A Frost Advisory is in effect for widespread hard freeze along the Interstate 25 corridor from 10:00 p.m. Wednesday through 9:00 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will drop to 22 to 28 degrees overnight. It looks like the growing season is officially over.

The Halloween forecast looks nice and dry, but Thursday will be cool with highs in the mid 50s. Temperatures will be in the low 50s for trick-or-treaters at 5 p.m. and drop into the 40s for those leaving around 7 p.m

It will be a mild start to November with highs in the upper 60s Friday afternoon. At the beginning of the weekend we can expect lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

So far, the next storm system will move into the mountains on Sunday. Early next week will bring cooler temperatures and another round of rain and snow to the Denver metro area.
