Adam Schefter reveals surprising twist at Raiders WR

While it may seem like a possibility, the Las Vegas Raiders could star Davante Adams is traded, this is by no means a guarantee. And ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the wideout could end up staying.

The reasons, Schefter reported, lie in the price the Raiders are asking for Adams and their unwillingness to pay the remainder of his contract. In addition to compensation for the 31-year-old wideout, the Raiders reportedly want a second-round draft pick. Adams turns 32 on Christmas Eve.

And that confluence has led to a lack of “phone-ringing-off-the-receiver interest,” according to a source Schefter spoke with.

Adams was also injured recently, suffering a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for the time being.

But while there are increasing reasons for the Raiders to potentially hold on to Adams if the right deal doesn't materialize, there are obvious benefits to moving on from the wideout.

For one thing, the Raiders' roster makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly what the team is going for – the offensive capabilities are those of a contending team, but holes elsewhere on the roster make that unrealistic, particularly at quarterback. And the lack of young, promising talent – especially in the middle – also means that the Year 1 players under head coach Antonio Pierce and Co. are apparently not yet starting to take the first steps of a years-long build.

Trading Adams, losing his salary — Adams has a cap hit of over $23 million this season, rising to $44 million in the 2025 and 2026 seasons — and absorbing draft capital would free up cap space for the Raiders to find your way around and chart a new course, a retooled roster.

But for now, that could still be a theoretical possibility, as Adams remains firmly on the Raiders' roster. And despite his desire to be traded elsewhere, it appears that could continue for the rest of 2024 if the organization can't complete a deal it deems worthwhile.
