Barron, Donald Trump's Generation Z son, serves as his unofficial podcast advisor

Barron Trump may not be appearing on the campaign trail as his father Donald Trump works to stoke voter enthusiasm ahead of the presidential election, but the 18-year-old has an unofficial role: podcast consultant.

The former president's strategy has evolved since his successful run for the White House in 2016. At the time, many of Trump's media appearances took place on television shows. It's a medium he has decades of experience with, having fired countless contestants for hundreds of episodes as host of “The Apprentice” and “The Celebrity Apprentice.”

This time he's making the rounds on podcasts. Based on YouTube numbers alone – many podcasts also publish their content in video form on the streaming platform – it reaches a wide audience.

Trump's interview on streamer Adin Ross' show has been viewed more than 2.6 million times since August 5th. His appearance on “This Past Weekend with Theo Von” has been viewed more than 14 million times since August 20th. His sitdown on “Flagrant” has garnered even more traction over 5.7 million views since October 9th, and his chat on “PBD Podcast” has garnered more than 2.7 million views since October 17th.

These numbers don't even take into account the number of listeners on other platforms and you can also see excerpts from these performances on TikTok and social media.

A member of Generation Z, Barron – the youngest of Trump's three sons – was the one who introduced his 78-year-old father to this new medium, a source close to Trump told ABC News. According to the source, Barron's main focus was YouTuber and wrestler Logan Paul, and his podcast “Impaulsive” was the first to feature Donald Trump in June.

It's part of Trump's effort to reach younger voters who may still be in the process of immigration or starting a family by focusing on issues such as jobs, the economy, the border and security.

This development was also clearly visible during the Republican National Convention. In 2016, Trump was introduced by billionaire Tom Barrack, who discussed his longtime friend's business success. This year it was UFC President Dana White – a clear attempt to reach the young men who make up the majority of the sport's viewership.

Trump will also conduct an interview with hugely popular podcaster Joe Rogan – a former UFC commentator – on Friday, sources told ABC News. “The Joe Rogan Experience” is the most popular Spotify podcast.

His political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, hasn't shied away from the medium after chatting with host Alexandra Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on October 6. The podcast has garnered more than 669,000 views on YouTube.

It's still unclear whether this medium is effective at reaching and engaging voters – we'll find out in less than two weeks as Election Day approaches.
