When did Bella Ramsey come out as nonbinary?

Ramsey came out as nonbinary last year, telling the New York Times, “I guess my gender has always been very fluid. Someone would call me 'she' or 'her' and I wouldn't think about it, but I knew it was a little bit exciting when someone called me 'he.'”

What is the plot of Boys don't cry?

Boys don't cry is a drama that tells the true story of a young trans man.

It's a heartbreaking story about Brandon Teena, played by Hilary Swank, trying to find his way in rural Nebraska and his relationship with aspiring singer Lana (Chloë Sevigny). As the story progresses, he becomes the victim of a brutal hate crime.

The film received mixed reviews upon its release, but is now recognized as a culturally significant moment in LGBTQ+ cinema, and Swank won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2000. However, she has since said that a more authentic cast would have suited the role better.

In 2020, she told Variety: “Twenty-one years later, transgender people are not only fortunate to have their lives, (though) we still have a long way to go in terms of their safety and their inclusivity.

“We now have a number of transgender actors who would obviously be much better suited to the role and have the opportunity to actually audition.”
