Berkley leads Seaman in a tight race for mayor of Las Vegas, with ballots yet to be counted

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — With multiple ballots waiting to be verified and counted across Nevada, some races are still too close to call and many residents of the city of Las Vegas are wondering who will be the next mayor since Oscar and Carolyn Goodman have been running for 25 years Mayors are The city of Las Vegas is coming to an end.

Since Wednesday evening after election night, mayoral candidate Shelley Berkley has been ahead of her opponent, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, in the polls with more than 50 percent of the vote.

After Berkley and Seaman met with the two mayoral candidates on election night, they shared how they plan to represent the people of Las Vegas if elected.

“My goal is to make our city one of the safest cities in the U.S. and to ensure that we move this city forward with bold leadership and address the issues that matter to people,” said Victoria, City Councilwoman and mayoral candidate for the City of Las Vegas sailor.

“I will do my best to represent everyone in this community and give everyone the opportunity to share in the success of Las Vegas. I think our best years are still ahead of us,” added her opponent Shelley Berkley.

Whatever the mayoral job, both candidates say one of their best qualities is tackling a long list of issues currently affecting many Las Vegans.

“We will address the homeless issues we have, and affordable housing is a big issue, as well as economic growth and development,” Berkley said.

“People are fed up with crime in the city, shoplifting and things like that. They are truly concerned about the future of our city,” Seaman added.

After more than two decades of the Goodman legacy ruling the city of Las Vegas, both mayoral candidates say they want to make sure they can meet people's expectations.

“We will have a mayor who is not Goodman for the first time in 25 years, so they want to ensure that the person who will take her place has the experience and bold leadership to move the city forward.”, Seaman added.

“I have known the Goodmans for years. “I know they want me to succeed because that's part of their legacy too, and when you hold these positions as long as you're elected, you're doing your best for the people who call Las Vegas home.” Berkley added.
