Bodybuilder and powerlifter Jeff Nippard was shoved in the throat by his fitness colleague Mike Van Wyck during an altercation at a gym Canada.

The dispute is believed to have been sparked by a post by Van Wyck on Instagram last week that targeted “science-based types” like Nippard, who has a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and uses that knowledge to plan his training and promote and diet.

“Above all, scientists have to answer this question: Why do you remain so mediocre even though you know so much?” Van Wyck, who has 289,000 followers on Instagram, said in his video.

“Bodybuilding, you can be so big, or in other cases so small, but it's always small, somehow you're an expert in muscles, but you don't have any, and if you do have them, it's not that well put together.” and there are holes in the body.

“You pride yourself on being strong…strong doesn’t matter.” Unfortunately, you have to apply your knowledge to get people to trust you. But you have these nerds and these idiots, they try to prove themselves in shows and they come in last place.”

Nippard, who has over two million followers on Instagram and over 5.7 million subscribers on YouTube, responded directly to Van Wyck's video by listing his achievements in powerlifting and bodybuilding.

He also said, “It's pretty obvious that bodybuilding success depends on great genetics and really hard training, and if you want to make it in the IFBB, use steroids.”

“I like science because it gives me more confidence in what actually works and what doesn't because it isolates variables.” “If you trust the advice of a great man and not scientific studies that don't bother me, I'll listen too what great people have to say.”

A short video of the altercation at the Pure Muscle and Fitness gym in Ontario, Canada, was shared on social media on Monday, showing Van Wyck aggressively pushing Nippard to the ground by the throat.

In the video, Nippard might have a hard time saying, “Damn, bro.”

In a post on Instagram after the incident, Nippard wrote: “If you have seen the video by now, I would like to clarify the incident.” First of all, I would just like to say that I have had a CT scan and everything is fine.

“In case you didn't see it, that's exactly what happened and there were a lot of witnesses.” Mike Van Wyck shoved me in the throat twice in the middle of the gym and then pushed my cameraman.

“There is already a lie going around that Mike asked me to stay away from him and that I didn't listen and reach out to him first.” This is FALSE and Pure Muscle and Fitness has security footage to prove it. I think they should release it.

“That’s exactly what happened.” As I was doing bicep curls for a YouTube short, Mike walked past me and said “sup.” This was our first appointment of the day. I giggled.

“Mike said, ‘Oh, this is getting really fun,’ as he walked past me. Then I asked him, “What did you mean by that?” and I made sure my cameraman was filming in case he tried anything funny.

“He then walked back towards me, said “Turn off the camera” and immediately punched me in the throat, causing me to fall to the ground. I got back up and he told me never to talk about him again. Then he thrust into my throat a second time. Then he turned to my videographer and pushed him against a cable machine. Then he walked away.

“That's the whole story and there is gym security footage to prove it.” It's up to the gym whether they want to release it.

“I would also like to say that I really appreciate the overwhelming support from the community and other gym members. “It honestly makes it a lot easier for me to deal with this situation. Thank you all.

“I don't know why he attacked me, other than he really, really hates my training style.” I certainly didn't give him a reason to hate me. And even if I did, there is no excuse for physically attacking someone over a disagreement. I believe this was the result of the anger provoked by the clip I posted yesterday in response to his question about science-based education. Pretty wild stuff.'

A statement from Pure Muscle and Fitness said: “At Pure Muscle + Fitness we have a strict zero-tolerance policy towards violence and bullying.”

“We are deeply saddened by a recent incident involving unacceptable behavior by a member.” This individual was not employed by or formally affiliated with our gym and we have permanently revoked his access to our facility, including all privileges to train customers.

“Our thoughts are with the affected members and we fully support their well-being.” The safety of our community is our top priority and we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for everyone. The matter is currently being investigated by the police and we are cooperating fully with the authorities.”
