Brandin Podziemski has ruled out the expected Warriors-Celtics clash – The Mercury News

BOSTON – Brandin Podziemski's status on Wednesday morning's official injury report was “available.” In the afternoon, he was downgraded to questionable due to an illness. Then, before Wednesday night's game between the Warriors and Celtics at TD Garden, the Warriors ruled out the guard.

Podziemski left Monday's game in Washington DC with an illness. He said he felt dizzy and lightheaded at the start of the game and continued until the end of the game, but did not receive an official diagnosis. He left a minute into the third quarter when his symptoms were too severe to endure and did not return.

“He’s still sick,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said before the game. “That influences the game significantly for us. So we have to figure out how to put together the cast behind Steph.”

The 21-year-old Podziemski is averaging 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He ranks third in the NBA in plus-minus, a metric that shows how impactful he is on the court.

“He’s still feeling the effects,” Kerr said. “Whatever it is. Whether it's a viral thing, who knows? He's not feeling well and we're holding him back. He’s excited to play and we’re keeping him going.”

De'Anthony Melton (back) is also out for the Warriors. He is scheduled to be evaluated again on Thursday after participating in the 3-on-3 duel at the end of the morning shootaround on Wednesday. Podziemski also took part in the shooting.

On the other hand, Jaylen Brown (hip) is missing for Boston as well as Kristaps Porzingis, who has to sit out indefinitely.
