Brandon Aubrey of the Cowboys kicks a 65-yard field goal, 1 yard short of the NFL record

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Brandon Aubrey kicked a 65-yard field goal for the Dallas Cowboys in the first quarter against the Baltimore Ravens, the second longest kick in NFL history.

Aubrey's kick on Sunday was 1 yard short of the record set by the kicker on the other sideline, Justin Tucker of the Ravens. Tucker's 66-yard kick came on the final play of a 19-17 win at Detroit in 2021.

Both games were played indoors. Dallas played at AT&T Stadium, whose sunroof was closed.

The shot went several meters over the crossbar, and there was also space on the inside of the right post.

Aubrey has now completed 15 of 15 kicks of 50 yards or more in his two seasons after adding a 51-yard kick late in the first half.

The 29-year-old former Major League Soccer player set his record for 50-yard or more throws without a miss early in his NFL career. The Cowboys discovered Aubrey in the USFL last year.

Aubrey managed a 55-yard kick at the end of the first half in Cleveland's opener, but the kick came after the final whistle when the Cowboys were penalized for delay of game.

Dallas coaches considered letting Aubrey try from the 71st position, but changed their minds when the Browns got a returner into the end zone.
