Cal Fire lifts burn ban in Mendocino County • The Mendocino Voice

MENDOCINO CO., 10/31/24 – The onset of fall weather led the Cal Fire Mendocino Unit to lift the ban on residential and agricultural burning today.

This allows residents and farms with valid and current permits within the state's jurisdiction to obtain a burn permit to burn on their property, Cal Fire said.

Permits are required for residential and agricultural fires in areas managed by Cal Fire. The agency also recommends that those interested in attending a fire check with the local fire department to determine whether additional permits are required locally.

Burns can only take place on open burn days.

Inspections are required for all agricultural burns. Residential burns may also be inspected at Cal Fire's request.

“Safe residential burning of forest waste by landowners is a critical tool to reduce fire risk,” Cal Fire said. “State, federal and local land management and fire agencies will also use this opportunity to conduct prescribed logging aimed at improving the health and resilience of forests on private and public lands.”

Permits are available at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.

Cal Fire also asks interested parties to call the Mendocino County Air Management District at (707) 463-4391 to confirm that they have the proper permits and that it is a permitted fire day.
