CBP recalls Dia de los Muertos items prohibited across the border

Ahead of Dia de los Muertos, U.S. Customs and Border Protection wants to remind border regions what items can be transferred from Mexico to the U.S

CBP said it expects an increase in introgression of the signature holiday flower cempasuchil, the popular marigold cut flower, into the United States

However, CBP would like to remind people that the flower is allowed, but only if it is cut and has no roots or soil.

In addition, CBP has published a list of prohibited items such as cut flowers and seasonal fresh produce.

  • Murraya
  • juniper

CBP said people thinking about purchasing floral arrangements for their altar decorations in Mexico should show their florists the list of banned cut flowers.

CBP would also like to remind people to declare all plants, flowers, foods, prepared foods, medications, alcoholic beverages, and spirits when entering the United States, as undeclared prohibited items may result in fines.
