Chappell Roan faces backlash over cancellation of his festival appearance: 'Unprofessional'

Good luck, baby!

Chappell Roan fans are outraged after the singer canceled two of her weekend performances at the last minute.

The 26-year-old “Midwest Princess” announced she was pulling out of the All Things Go festival in New York on Saturday and in Washington, DC on Sunday, despite many of her die-hard fans spending hundreds on tickets and transportation to the event – Some even buy plane tickets to see their favorite artist perform.

Roan decided to put her mental health first and revealed that “things have become overwhelming for her.”

“I apologize to the people who were waiting to see me at All Things Go in NYC and DC this weekend, but I won't be able to perform,” Roan wrote on her Instagram Story on Friday. “Things have become overwhelming over the last few weeks and I’m really feeling it.”

“I'm feeling pressure to prioritize a lot of things at the moment and I need a few days to prioritize
Health. I want to be present at my performances and give the best show possible. Thank you for your understanding. “Be back soon xox,” her message ended.

Fans are not happy about this and immediately take to social media to vent their displeasure.

“Cancel AGAIN with 24 hours notice… Chappell Roan is probably the most unprofessional artist of this new generation I said what I said,” one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Not that Chappell is canceling Roan at ATG when the festival is THIS WEEKEND…girl I can't defend you anymore,” shared a second.

“No reason, I’m so angry now. I spent $150 on a train ticket to New York to see Chappell Roan at this festival, and the day before the festival she cancels her performance. I'm so angry. I prioritize mental health, but even when you commit to something, you stick to it,” posted a third.

But some rush to the artist's aid.

“To everyone upset about Chappell Roan… count your MF days, it's your fault she canceled her ATG set,” one supporter wrote. “Don't people realize that Chappell Roan is like… going through a mental health crisis?” “I don't blame her for canceling shows. She was literally just diagnosed with severe depression,” someone else commented.

The “HOT TO GO!” singer has had to deal with a lot, including the revelation that she has been diagnosed with severe depression since her skyrocketing fame.

“I went to a psychiatrist last week because I thought I didn’t know what was going on. “She diagnosed me with severe depression – which I didn't think I had because I don't really feel sad,” the “Pink Pony Club” singer told the Guardian in an interview published on September 20.

“But I have all the symptoms of severe depression.”

Roan decided to cancel the festival after announcing that she “voted for King Kamala” but did not support either presidential candidate.

“Yes, I’m voting for King Kamala,” she said via TikTok on Wednesday, September 25. “F—k Trump, for f— King Real,” she continued while criticizing both sides and sharing that voting and advocating are two different things.

Earlier this month, Roan threatened to quit music “if it ever becomes dangerous.” Her comments came weeks after she rebuked aggressive fans for expecting to have access to her at all times.

“I don't care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing that you do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever. I don’t care that it’s normal,” Roan said in her August TikTok video.

“I don’t want what the hell you get when you see a celebrity,” she explained. “I don't care – if you think it's selfish of me to say no for a photo, your time or a hug – that's not normal, that's weird!”

Roan also made headlines when she snapped at a photographer on the red carpet at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards and told them to “shut up.”

She then won the award for Best New Artist.

At just 17 years old, Roan got a contract with Atlantic Records. Her big break came in 2023 with the release of her first full album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
