On Sunday afternoon, social media was abuzz with reports that one person had been named Charleston White had been shot. A Chicago police call revealed that an officer received a call from someone who identified himself as Charleston White saying he had been shot by three men outside Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 251 East Huron Street in Chicago. The call, recorded at 12:47 p.m. on Sunday, triggered the dispatch of emergency response teams. Emergency crews arrived at the scene within two minutes, but no victim was found.

Was it another Charleston White?

After the initial report, social media users quickly speculated that the victim could be well-known Fort Worth anti-violence activist and comedian Charleston White. Worrying messages and prayers for his recovery began circulating online. However, one user suggested that the affected individual could be someone else with the same name and residence in Chicago.

“There’s a Charleston White who lives in Chicago. It's a different Charleston. Just a crazy coincidence,” he claimed on X.

Other users added further context, clarifying that the victim was described in the scanner report as being in his 30s, while the famous Charleston White, who lives in Texas, is in his 40s.

“This is not the famous Charleston White. This is another person who shares the same name. According to the scanner, the victim is in his 30s. “Charleston White is in his 40s and lives in Texas, not Chicago,” the community notes say.

A possible prank?

Against this background, emergency responders and the hospital confirmed that there was no shooting. This led to speculation that the incident may have been a prank. Reports suggest the call to police may have been made from a hospital landline.
