Chicago open house, beer walk and art in the dark

CHICAGO – This weekend marks the 14th annual open house in Chicago.

In addition to viewing historical and architectural gems during the public festival, Chicagoans can enjoy an art exhibition in Hyde Park on Thursday evenings, take a walking tour of Humboldt Park on Saturdays, enjoy the Island Party Hut Fall Festival along the riverwalk and more.

There's also the Arts in the Dark parade and a beer walk through Lincoln Avenue and Roscoe Street.

All weekend

“Rita” screenings

Thursday 5:45 p.m. and Friday 3:00 p.m

Instituto Cervantes, 31 W. Ohio St.

Instituto Cervantes will screen Paz Vega's directorial debut, “Rita,” a 2024 Spanish film that is a “deeply personal and moving exploration of domestic violence through the eyes of a child.” The film is in Spanish and will have English subtitles.

The Chicago Architecture Center's 14th annual Chicago Architecture Center Open House returns this weekend, offering free behind-the-scenes access to Chicago landmarks and architectural gems across the city – from homes to renovated theaters to century-old churches. There are more than 170 locations in over 20 districts. This free public festival also features more than 40 events and programs such as demonstrations, lectures and art performances.

SOPHY Hotel, first floor lobby, 1411 E. 53rd St.

Every third Thursday of the month, this Hyde Park hotel hosts an artist show with live beats from a DJ. This week features work from Dredske and K-Fleye, as well as special guest DJs Vic Mensa and Vic Lloyd.

La Fete Du Funk

Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Ave.

La Fete du Funk, a live music tribute to '70s rock and disco, comes to the Epiphany Center for the Arts this weekend. Genre-defining icons from the Rolling Stones and Donna Summer to The Doors and Santana will be heard, plus there will be a “disco rock cocktail”. Guests are strongly encouraged to wear disco outfits.

Boo-ler Room: A spooky DJ experience

Secret location in Lincoln Park

At this BYOB Halloween party from nonprofit arts group Windy City .Wavs, six DJs spin “haunting beats” and there's a costume contest.

Leather and lace disco

Friday, 8:30 p.m

Chop Shop, 2033 W. North Ave.

In this rave and AV show, DJs Roxanne Roll and Alex Oxley – who go by Fleetmac Wood – rework Fleetwood Mac's classic rock sounds “into a spectrum of electronic genres,” with remixes and edits of hits and deep cuts alike.

Walking tour of Paseo Boricua and Humboldt Park

Saturday 10-11:30 a.m

Meeting point is Ciclo Urbano, 2459 W. Division St.

Professional guide and local Eduardo Arocho leads a walking tour of Humboldt Park, taking people through its shops, restaurants, public art, and Puerto Rican history.

Labagh Woods, in Foster and Cicero

The “healthiest nightclub in the world” offers dancing, yoga, games, massages and more.

Iceland party hat autumn festival

Island Party Hut's weekly October Fall Festival features live music, hayrides along the river, a pumpkin patch, fall cocktails and beer, apple cider donuts, games and more.

North Lawndale Bus Tour with Shermann “Dilla” Thomas

Saturday 2-4 p.m

James Stone Freedom Square, 3615 W. Douglas Blvd.

Chicago urban historian Shermann “Dilla” Thomas leads a bus tour of North Lawndale, highlighting the neighborhood’s social, cultural and architectural history. The tour begins and ends at the Chicago Sukkah Design Festival.

This is a pay-what-you-can tour with a suggested donation of $20. Find out more and register here.

A bully bash

Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m

Kuma's Corner West Loop, 852 W. Fulton Market

Chi-Town Pitties is celebrating its eight-year anniversary of rescuing and advocating for bully breed dogs this weekend. The Bully Bash features food and drink, raffle prizes and music. According to the organizers, well-behaved dogs are allowed on a leash.

Sadie Hawkins Day Style Ride

Saturday, 3 p.m

Palmer Square Park, 2200 N. Kedzie Blvd.

The Sadie Hawkins Day Style Ride, a popular charity bike ride that's part scavenger hunt and part costume party, is back this weekend after an eight-year hiatus. The ride is intended to be a creative, relaxed and inclusive way to support local businesses and bike shops cycling on the North and Northwest Sides. There will also be raffle prizes and an after-party at Richmond's Sports Bar, 2944 W. Grand Ave. at 7 p.m.

Beer walk through Lincoln Avenue and Roscoe Street

Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m

Along Lincoln Avenue from Belmont to Addison (Route A) or from Diversey to Belmont (Route B) or Roscoe Street from Damen to Western (Route C)

For this Halloween-themed event, more than 20 local businesses along three stretches of Lincoln Avenue and Roscoe Street will transform into craft beer tasting venues. Participating locations include Cubbington's Cabinet, Moondance Chicago, Roost Chicken and Biscuits, Roscoe Village Bikes and The Denim Lounge.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 the day of the event. Attendees will receive commemorative beer tasting glasses, a map with event guides and vouchers for local businesses. Find out more, choose a route and buy tickets here.

Arts In The Dark Parade

Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m

Along State Street from Lake to Van Buren

Now in its 10th year, this evening parade brings together various Chicago cultural organizations, youth programs, artists such as Dee Alexander, J. Ivy and Tim Samuelson, and an audience of 50,000 people. There will be unique floats, puppets and creative performances along the Loop's historic State Street.

Mountainaires: Free garden concert

Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

Paradise Garden Logan Square, 2214 N. Drake Ave.

Chicago band The Mountainaires will play a concert at Paradise Garden in Logan Square. Guests should bring their own chair or blanket for seating.
