Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes sends a clear message to Andy Reid with a stark warning to the rest of the NFL

Patrick Mahomes is not having a good start to 2024 NFL season in terms of statistics. However, there is no one on the Kansas City Chiefs seem worried about it. Andy Reid made that clear recently, and the quarterback also downplayed that situation and warned the rest of the league that he he only cares about winning.

“If we win, scoring fewer points won’t hurt as much.” Mahomes said, via Arrowhead pride. “Of course I want to be perfect. I want to be great. I (also) don't want to put our defense in bad positions like I did the other day. But at the end of the day I want to win.“

The Chiefs entered Week 9 as the only undefeated team in the 2024 NFL season and had a perfect record of 7-0. This becomes even more remarkable when we consider Mahomes' poor performance, the opponents they faced the number of injured players on the offensive.

A strong defense and a productive running game have been the key to the Chiefs' success so far this season. While Mahomes would like to improve the passing game, he is willing to sacrifice his own numbers if it benefits the team.

“However we have to win the football game, I'm okay with that – if it's about scoring a lot of touchdowns, not about scoring touchdowns (or) if it's about running the football. Whatever it is – (even) if it's about playing defense to win football games – at the end of the day I just want to win. I think we're doing that extremely well“Mahomes said.

Andy Reid supports Mahomes

Even if Mahomes hasn't been able to throw deep passes like he has in other years, Reid expects nothing less from his signal caller. In the coach's eyes, it's the Chiefs' star do what is necessary to achieve victories.

“(They do a good job with their shell cover – which allows us to get through light meters underneath – they're just not the big pieces. (But) I agree with everything they present defensively. We have to use what we have there. Teams would show you shell coverage — and (Mahomes) would have to kind of get used to the whole thing. Now he sees it, handles it, gets it to his guys (and gets the ball out of his hands). He is a great player. He manages everything. It's like having a coach on the fieldReid said.
