“Comparison is the thief of joy”

While accepting the award for Best Crossover Song at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards on Thursday (September 26), MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) thanked someone he used to have bad blood with most: Jelly Roll .

The two are now friends as well as collaborators, and their July duet “Lonely Road” won the crossover award at the ceremony, which the “Son of a Sinner” star did not attend. “Dude, Jelly Roll. Bubba!” MGK cheered on behalf of his song partner on stage. “Jelly, I love you. From 10 years ago when we hated each other, we have moved on to exalting each other.”

“Comparison is the thief of joy,” the rapper and rocker added, holding up his trophy. “There’s enough room for everyone on this couch. We found camaraderie in the chaos.”

Jelly and the “My Ex's Best Friend” singer previously addressed their decades-old feud in a Sept. 13 vodcast episode, helping Spotify launch its musician-focused programming Countdown to Series. “It's so funny how much I love you now,” MGK said during their conversation as she sat across from the country star. “God, I hated you so much back then.”

“You have to understand that there were only about seven white rappers on the planet at that time. “So it was so competitive when you were in that pool that we were automatically pushed against each other anyway,” Jelly added with a laugh at the time. “You were just thin and good-looking. So I thought I was just a hater. I was just a hater, dude! It’s hard growing up in front of the whole world.”

In addition to releasing “Lonely Road” in July, Jelly and MGK also filmed a music video with their respective partners Bunnie XO and Megan Fox. The picture shows how the musicians struggle to provide for their families, so they organize a robbery that ends with MGK behind bars, leaving them behind Jennifer's body Actress raising her fictional newborn without him.
