Crowd safety measures are in place this weekend at the Big Fresno Fair

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — It's big times again at the Big Fresno Fair and officials are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe.

“There are private security guards in uniform, there are security guards who you might not see in uniform, who you don’t realize are there,” said trade fair spokesman German Amezcua.

There are also cameras throughout the facility and at least 80 Fresno police officers are on site daily.

“These officers out here are very hard-working, they're constantly on the move, so we usually understand each other before it happens, we kind of see things – if they do that, then we'll address it and either ask them to leave or “Speak to them and say this type of behavior will not be tolerated,” said Fresno Police Sgt. Mark Van Wyhe.

The weekend admission regulations now apply to children under 18 years of age.

An adult is required to enter the fair after 7 p.m.

If you are older, you will be required to show ID and guests will not be permitted to enter the gates after 9 p.m. on Friday or Saturday nights.

“It's been very effective, it started in 2017 and we've seen families – a lot of incidents have gone down – and families have been able to just come out and enjoy Mass,” Amezcua said.

Sergeant. VanWyhe encourages everyone to drive safely and be aware of pedestrians.

He says police will also patrol the gates.

“This is probably one of the safest places in Fresno for the next two weeks,” said Sgt. VanWyhe.

If you lose your child, all lost children will be taken to the gingerbread house near the Chance Avenue gate.
