Damar Hamlin records the first interception of his career at “MNF”

Security at the Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin recorded his first interception during the Monday Night Football Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hamlin, 26, intercepted the Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the second quarter, which enabled a 41-yard drive with five plays, which ended with a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Allen to wide receiver Khalil ShakirThe interception came less than two years after Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field during the Bills game. A stretcher and ambulance arrived on the field and emergency responders performed CPR. Hamlin was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and was initially in critical condition before making a miraculous recovery, accompanied by an outpouring of support from players, coaches and fans.

A GoFundMe page originally set up by Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation to support a toy drive before he became ill — and later, after far exceeding the $2,500 goal, to support his recovery — raised more than $9 million. The Pittsburgh native was released from UC Medical Center a week after suffering cardiac arrest and was discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute two days later after completing a battery of tests and exams.

Hamlin returned to football in a limited capacity during the 2023 season and, after starting 13 times in 15 appearances before his cardiac arrest in 2022, started all three games for the Bills in 2024.
