D&D: Five Epic Boons That Could Change Your Game

Epic Blessings are one of D&D 5.5E's endgame rewards. At least that's how they are intended. But just look at how good these are.

Epic Blessings are nothing new in D&D 5.5E. Many existed in the old 5E Dungeon Master's Guide, right alongside blessings, talismans, and badges of prestige. These were alternative rewards – possibly as an alternative to leveling up. At high levels, this could help maintain a sense of progression as you either reach the level cap, or keep you from leveling up too far and too quickly.

In the Player's Handbook there are epic blessings as talents that can be performed from level 19. But you know, look at some of them? They are about as powerful as certain magical items. And if you want to play a game with higher power (perhaps you played Pathfinder with the Mythic rules and are hungry for heroic heroes), these blessings wouldn't be too unbalanced even at lower levels.

Make these epic quests truly epic with a reward fit for a saga. Here are five epic boons that could change your entire game.

Blessing of speed

Sometimes you have to be really quick. The Boon of Speed ​​is the ultimate mobility aid. It grants you the ability to disengage as a bonus action, but your retreat ends the Grappled state. This allows you to automatically escape a fight. Additionally, your speed increases by 30 feet. Which is great for any class, but absolutely ridiculous for a high mobility character like a barbarian or a monk.

A 30-foot speed increase is roughly equivalent to speed boots (which double your speed), although it is a permanent improvement. And the blessing of speed also increases an ability score of your choice by one. But again, this is not an unusual reward on any level. Especially at the higher ranks.

Blessing of Energy Resistance

This blessing is a powerful boost for every character. In addition to increasing skill points, it also grants you resistance to two different energy types (which isn't difficult to achieve on your own). But beyond that, you can redirect the damage of the type you're resistant to whenever you take that type of damage.

To do this, you use your reaction and select a target within 60 feet. They make a saving throw or take 2d12 + your Constitution modifier damage. It's not the most broken thing and will make the characters much more resilient. But it's a cool skill to give someone.

Blessings of Dimensional Travel

Now we're starting to get into “you're a demigod” territory. The blessing of dimensional travel. This boon allows you to teleport up to 30 feet immediately after an attack or spell action. In particular, no action is required for this, you can just do it completely free. Oh, and you get a stat increase for each attribute.

Yes, definitely demigod territory. This feels like something a high-level character could do. But it might be okay to throw this in as a reward when your campaign is nearing its peak. It is very active. Very funny.

Blessing of fate

What if Lucky took steroids? You would receive the epic blessing of fate. In addition to the status increase for each attribute, you get the ability to instantly give someone a kind of super guidance. You can roll 2d4 when you or another creature succeeds or fails an attack, check, or saving throw, and then add that value as a bonus or penalty to the die roll of 20.

You can only do this once per rest (short or long), but it will surely stack the deck in your favor.

Blessing of the irresistible offensive

Another one for the mythical hero/demigod category. This allows you to increase Strength or Dexterity by 1 (up to 30). You can also ignore resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing.

But the real fun in this game comes whenever you roll a natural 20. If you do this, you can also add your ability in addition to the normal critical strike stats Score (no modifier, the entire score) on the damage you deal.

These blessings will also change every game. It's up to you (the DM) to decide whether you want to wait until level 19 or not start playing.
