Detective shot dead after suspects kicked in front door of her home: police

A detective was shot and killed during a home invasion at her New Jersey home, authorities said.

Detective Sgt. According to police, Monica Mosley, an employee of the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office in New Jersey, was fatally shot at her home in Bridgeton on Tuesday evening.

Police responded to the home around 10:30 p.m. and reported “multiple people kicking in a front door,” Bridgeton police said in a news release.

Mosley, 51, died at the scene, police said.

A person who was being treated for a gunshot wound at a Camden hospital was detained for questioning in connection with the incident, police said. No further information about the individual was released.

As of Wednesday morning, there had been no arrests or charges in the case, police said.

Multiple agencies are investigating the fatal shooting, including the State Police Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and the Bridgeton Police Department's Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Officers could be seen on the property of the home in Bridgeton on Wednesday.

Mosley began her career in 2006 with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office in Bridgeton as a paralegal. She became a county detective in 2009, “where she served our community with honor, dignity and respect before her untimely passing,” Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said in a statement.

Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari Sr. said he has known Mosley for most of her career.

“Always loved and admired, such a devastating loss,” he said in a statement. “Justice will be served and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.”

Mosley served in several divisions of the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, including the trial teams, special victims unit, community justice unit and professional standards unit, where she was assigned as division chief, the office said.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model to everyone she worked with and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond,” Webb-McRae said. “She will be missed more than words can describe, but her CCPO family will never forget her.”
