Elementary school children in Saugus wear Dodger blue before the World Series – NBC Los Angeles

Students and teachers at Rosedell Elementary School in Saugus wore Dodger blue before Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.

A sixth-grader wore head-to-toe Dodgers gear, including a foam finger.

“I think it's important for our school to show Dodger pride because we need to support our home team and maybe help them win,” the student said.

He said he was looking forward to seeing Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani face Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.

Another sixth-grader named Evan said he likes some of the Yankees players, including Aaron Judge.

“My family doesn't like the New York Yankees, but I think it will be extremely fun because I can root for both teams,” Evan said.

Rooting for the Dodgers was part of Friday's class. The students made paper players and played tag.

First-grade teacher Kimberly Corona was a student at the same elementary school in 1981 when the Dodgers and Yankees last met in the World Series.

“I was a first-grader at this school here in Rosedell, and that was the last time the Dodgers played the Yankees,” Corona said. “It’s kind of fun to come full circle.”

Madalynn, a sixth-grader, said everyone in her family has a different favorite player.

“We always argue about which one is best,” she said.

First pitch is scheduled for tonight at 5:08 p.m.
