Of course, we all know here in South Louisiana that the weather will change quickly. And that is exactly what is happening now as we approach the weekend. Southerly winds will return while an upper-level low pressure system slowly moves east. Highs will settle in the 90s on Saturday and Sunday.

Fortunately, the LSU game is in the evening, which will result in much more pleasant conditions than last week. The warming trend from the weekend will continue into early next week.

Long-range models suggest we could see another tropical wave move into the Gulf late next week. That's too far out for the National Hurricane Center to mention in its Tropical Development Outlook. There's enough going on in the tropics already: Hurricane Helene is expected to make landfall in Florida later today, and Tropical Storm Isaac in the North Atlantic.

We also have a well-defined low pressure system that could develop into Joyce in the next few days. If something tries to materialize in the Gulf late next week, we can expect increasing rain chances. Where and how strong the system will be remains highly uncertain.
