Exclusive clip “Brilliant Minds”: Dr. Muriel Landon wants her son Dr. Oliver Wolf follows the rules

After last week's gripping premiere Brilliant minds On NBC, viewers can't wait to hear more about talented neurologist Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) and how he can diagnose even the most difficult patients. Nobody knows more about Dr. Wolf's talents as the Bronx General Hospital's chief physician, Dr. Muriel Landon (played by Broadway legend Donna Murphy). In a wild twist at the end of the series' pilot, Dr. Landon as Dr. Wolf's mother reveals, which partially explains his hesitation in taking the job at the behest of his friend/colleague Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry).

While their dynamic will be explored in future episodes, Dr. Wolf clearly has issues with the way his mother has dealt with his deeply troubled but loving father in her past. Dr. Wolf may not agree with his mother's methods, but in this exclusive clip from tonight's all-new episode, it's clear she's looking out for him.

The scene begins with Dr. Landon Dr. Wolf asks for a moment in her office. “Am I in trouble?” asks Dr. Wolf says as he takes a seat. Exhausted, Dr. Landon: “I just wanted to reiterate how happy I am that you are on the team. There is no one who cares more about their patients than you, and everyone in New York knows that.” Surprised by her sentiment, Dr. interrupts. Wolf her. “I sense a but…”

Dr. Landon continues, “If you get in trouble, it's because of the establishment, your disregard for rules.” Of course, Dr. Wolf defensively. Nobody likes being confronted by their mother! “You are only hindering what is best for my patients,” argues Dr. Wolf. “Yeah, right,” says Dr. Landon says as she picks up a thick manual from her desk and drops it on her son's lap. “That should help.”

“Please tell me you haven’t written a memoir,” responds Dr. Wolf ironically. “It is a manual that describes the protocols for the hospital,” says Dr. Landon. “Sounds captivating,” says Dr. Wolf rolls her eyes and gets up to leave her office.

Before he gets to the door, Dr. Landon one last motherly comment. “There aren’t many hospitals left in this city that are willing to take a risk,” says Dr. Landon clearly. “Maybe I'm your last chance.” Dr. Wolf notices her words and gives her a look. “I got lucky,” he jokes as he turns to leave.

Tune in to NBC tonight at 10/9c for an all-new episode of Brilliant minds.
