Five things the Pirates need to do to become contenders in 2025

Five things the Pirates need to do to become contenders in 2025

Given the numerous needs in the lineup, I think it's the perfect time for the Pirates to make a move and add an established bat. Top view Bubba Chandler should be considered untouchable, but no other pitching prospect should carry that label.

With Keller locked up and Skenes, Jones and Chandler all in play for the foreseeable future, now is the time to make a trade. Hunter Barco, Braxton Ashcraft, Thomas Harringtonand other pitchers are movable assets with relatively high value.

If the acquiring team has a major league outfielder available, that's great. Pittsburgh has a need there. Is a shortstop available? Second baseman? First baseman? Great, great, great.

The Pirates are not forced to target only one position and therefore they can negotiate with more teams and increase the chance of maximizing their profits.

3. Don’t let the 2024 deadline dictate improvements for 2025

The Pirates' 2024 deadline brought with it an outfielder Bryan De La CruzProvider Isiah Kiner-Falefaand jugs Jalen Beeks And Josh Walker. Subtle moves, but hardly the level of players that drastically change the outcome of a season.

Although these trades cost the Pirates assets, none of these players should receive a golden ticket in 2025.
