Five Wiregrass High School flag football teams begin the postseason

The pursuit of an AHSAA flag football state title begins this week in the state of Alabama with the state playoffs, including for five teams from the Wiregrass.

The opening rounds can be played from Monday to Thursday at the venue of the two best teams in a region.

Of the five local teams, only one is home – Northside Methodist Academy. The Knights, who finished second in Class 1A-5A, Region 2, host Selma in Class 1A-5A action on Tuesday at Rip Hewes Stadium. The opening performance is scheduled for 4:30 p.m

The other four local teams — Carroll and Charles Henderson in Classes 1A-5A and Dothan and Enterprise in Classes 6A/7A — are all traveling after finishing third or fourth in their region.

Both Dothan and Carroll play Monday, with the Wolves traveling to Brookwood in a Class 6A-7A playoff game at 4:30 p.m. and the Eagles traveling to Montgomery in a Class 1A-5A playoff game at 5:30 p.m Play Catholic.

Enterprise travels to Northridge for a Class 6A/7A playoff game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

This week's first round winners will qualify for second round games November 11-14.

The state quarterfinals will take place November 18-21 and the state semifinals will take place November 25-28.

The state championship games are Dec. 4 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. The Class 1A-5A game is at 11 a.m. and the Class 6A/7A game is at 3 p.m
