“For me it's come full circle:” Elsbeth's Wendell Pierce tells the sweet story of why Vanessa Williams' guest role was so special for him

We all have ours Dream Elsbeth Guest starsand we've already gotten some great examples in season 2, including Nathan Lane as a murderous opera fan And Christian Borle as his Good woman character. This week's episode only adds to this growing and prestigious list as Vanessa Williams will be included. However, it's not just her reputation that makes this guest appearance so special, as she also has a very personal connection to one of the series' stars, Wendell Pierce.

In the middle Elsbeth's Season 2 is on the TV program 2024I had the opportunity to speak with stars Wendell Pierce and Carrie Preston at New York Comic-Con. While I was there, I asked about the upcoming fourth episode – “Elsbeth's Eleven” – and its big guest star Vanessa Williams. Pierce immediately wanted to tell me a sweet story about his history with her and why her looks meant so much to him. He said:

Well, it's come full circle for me because I met Vanessa in high school. I was 17 years old and we took part in this artistic recognition and talent search program together. And I came to New York first and spent my first weekend at her house. And so we've been friends all along and it's always a pleasure to work with her.

Well, this is just the cutest thing ever. Both Pierce and Williams have worked together continuously since the mid-80s and have made big names for themselves in the decades that followed. So seeing them come together in this wonderful show is certainly “full circle,” as the actor put it.

And what makes it even better is the fact that this episode isn't just about murder, but also about a robbery. Williams plays a VIP customer of a jewelry store who decides to stage the robbery. However, she is also responsible for the poisoning of a man who works in the store.

It's a super fun crime thriller that differs from the others by Elsbeth and co. and Pierce went on to tell me that Williams was incredible in her role. He also noted that she would tell everyone that they had been friends for a very long time, as he explained:

And she feels so comfortable. She is one of those people who always feels comfortable in her own skin. She's always just really relaxed and it was a full circle moment. We kept saying, “Oh, remember, we started,” and she announced, “Wendell and I have known each other since we were teenagers,” so it was really cool to work with her.

Well, I love this so much for her. Honestly, it also gives me hope that Williams is capable of it return to Elsbeth No matter how this episode ends, we can see it and The wire Actors together again.

Carrie Preston also had high praise for her co-star's pal. She explained that working with the Ugly Betty The actress was powerful and inspired by her work ethic and approach to the character. The Elsbeth star explained:

She's just so adorable and so down to earth and personable, but also a total boss. So I just love this combination. I always admire that and strive for it myself. And so it happened that she already had this role.

Vanessa Williams isn't the cast's only longtime friend, however. Her on-screen best friend is played by Jenn Lyon, who happens to be one of Preston's best friends. So there are a lot of dynamic duos on and off screen when it comes to this episode and as Claws The actress told me they were “in good hands all around.”

Overall, this wonderful story from Pierce showed how small the world is and added so much meaning to this week's episode Elsbeth. Meanwhile, Preston confirmed that Vanessa Williams is a force of nature. Overall, her comments made me excited for this episode, which I was already excited about because I love heists.

All this is to say, this episode of Elsbeth is something you shouldn't miss. Not only is it a fun murder mystery, but it also reunites some long-time friends, which is always something we love to see again!
