Fulham 2 – 1 Brentford

Fulham 2 – 1 Brentford

Fulham's super substitute Harry Wilson came off the bench to score two incredible goals in added time to secure a sensational 2-1 comeback win over west London rivals Brentford amid remarkable scenes at Craven Cottage.

Marco Silva's side appeared beaten by Vitaly Janelt's impressive first-half performance and were repeatedly pegged back by their local rivals. But in the end it was Wilson who was held up by his team-mates as the home fans celebrated a seemingly unlikely victory over their immediate neighbors in added time.

The game came in the 92nd minute when Wilson had a contender for the goal of the season to bring Fulham back into the game. Adama Traore found his substitute with a cross from the right and Wilson deftly heeled the ball up and over Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken, prompting loud roars. “I was just trying to really push it,” he later revealed.

Vitaly Janelt scores STUNNER to give Brentford the lead against Fulham.

Fabio Carvalho – who was booed on his return to Fulham – almost restored Brentford's lead with a shot from close range, but Bernd Leno made a great save to save the shot.

Seconds later, Wilson leaped through the Monday night sky and headed into the center of Antonee Robinson with 90+7 on the clock. From his shoulder? Surely. But no one supporting Fulham at the stadium cared in the slightest.

Brentford, meanwhile, slip to 12th after taking 14 points from wins this season, the league's highest.

Fulham's Harry Wilson reflects on scoring two injury-time goals against Brentford in the Premier League.

Fulham midfielder Harry Wilson told Sky Sports:

“It was an incredible feeling coming on as a substitute and scoring the two goals to win us the game. As the game went on I felt like it was what we deserved. We scored them in the second half.”

“Marco told me to play in the pocket and try to find space in the box and I tried to do that with both goals. They both went in, maybe not quite how I would have planned!”

On his first goal: “It went past Adama's goal and he shot in the first time. I just scored the equalizer to get over the front and I just tried to really help him and I hope someone gets on the ball at the far post! When I saw him fly in,” it was an incredible feeling.

On his second goal: “The second goal was a little luckier. I think it should go the other way! It got off my shoulder, but they all count.”

Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher told MNF:

Marco Silva spoke after Fulham's dramatic late win against Brentford and said his players deserved victory after dominating the entire game.

Fulham Boss Marco Silva:

“We definitely deserved the three points. There is no doubt about that. Tonight has been our season so far: dominant, the best team on the pitch, creating many more chances. But in reality we didn't get the points we deserved from the game.” . We were at the forefront from the first minute.

“The score at halftime was really unfair. I told the players to keep pushing. Brentford defended really hard around their penalty area. I would like to see us a little calmer in some moments. We tried everything from the bench.”

“Sometimes football takes something from you, but in the end it gives you something if you keep working hard.”

“It was a great evening for the fans. We are here to provide moments like this.”

“It's been a tough season for Harry in terms of minutes. He was on fire for the national team. He had a great evening.”

  • There have been five changes for Brentford since their midweek Carabao Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday: Ethan Pinnock, Mads Roerslev, Christian Norgaard, Mikkel Damsgaard and Yoane Wissa came in for Ben Mee, Fabio Carvalho, Jayden Meghoma, Mathias Jensen and Kevin Schade .

Frank: It was brutal

Thomas Frank reacted to Brentford's 2-1 defeat to Fulham, saying the defeat was hard to take after conceding two injury-time goals against their rivals.

Brentford Boss Thomas Frank:

“It was obviously hard. It's very hard emotionally right now. If you're leading in the 92nd minute, it's difficult for us to even get a draw – and then we lose it. Fulham were better that day, but we showed a lot of resilience and defense.

“I thought that could give us the win, but then there was an incredible touch from Wilson that 99 times out of 100 it didn't go in. Then we could have won, and in the end we lost it. It was brutal.”

Brentford sees even more points slipping away

Sky Sports' Peter Smith:

Premier League points are not easy to come by – so letting 14 of them slip away from winning positions will be extremely costly for Brentford. How important could they be at the end of the season?

It was a cruel way to lose a derby as it resulted in two injury-time goals after such determined defending. But Brentford – the beneficiary of a late goal against Ipswich last weekend – felt that familiar feeling again.

“I still prefer to take the lead than to be 1-0 down and try to turn things around,” Thomas Frank said afterwards, pointing out that the previously lost points were due to leads against teams like Man City and Tottenham were attributed. “Ultimately it will hopefully give us more points over time,” added Frank, who remains happy with his team’s performance.

He accepted that Fulham deserved to win in terms of play and Brentford had to be better in attack. But once again points were lost on Frank's side.
