Harris won't be speaking from Howard University as planned and is calling it quits

Vice President Kamala Harris will not speak to supporters at her alma mater in Washington, DC tonight as planned.

Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond briefly addressed those gathered at Howard University in the early morning hours Wednesday, telling them that Harris would address voters at the university on Wednesday. It was not made clear when exactly this would happen.

Despite the bleak outlook for Democrats at that moment of the night, Richmond told those gathered in Howard that “there are still votes to be counted.”

“We still have states that haven’t called yet,” Richmond added. “We will continue to fight overnight to ensure that every vote is counted and every voice has spoken.”

Before Richmond spoke, telling the crowd that Harris would not speak as originally planned, videos circulated online showing those gathered at Howard leaving the grounds as the dynamics of the race appeared to shift in favor of Republicans.

Richmond's hint that Harris would call it a night early came about an hour before the race was called for President-elect Donald Trump. Republicans also regained control of the Senate early Tuesday night, and it remains possible that the GOP could win a supermajority with enough victories in the House.
