Harrowing moment: NFL star Tommy Tremble appears to have fallen unconscious after a brutal blow to the head

This is the horrific moment Carolina Panthers player Tommy Tremble fell unconscious after suffering a nasty blow in Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Slow-motion footage showed the tight end hit the ground and not immediately get back to his feet after a brutal collision with the Bears' Jaquan Brisker at Soldier Field.

The sickening scenes occurred just under three minutes before the end of the first half, when Tremble fielded a seven-yard pass from quarterback Andy Dalton and began running up the field.

While trying to rush past Brisker, Tremble lowered his helmet as the Bears safety lowered his shoulder, causing the two to have a brutal head-on collision.

The sickening blow brought both players down, but while Brisker eventually managed to get to his feet, Tremble collapsed on top of him, remaining motionless even after being pushed off by his opponent.

Tremble was able to walk to the locker room under his own power and was evaluated for a concussion.

He did not return in the first half and was listed as questionable to return to the game.

The hit forced a fumble from the motionless Tremble, which left worryingly limp on the turf as players from both teams trampled over him to recover the ball.

Bears defensive lineman Gervon Dexter recovered the fumble, but as he celebrated, troubling scenes continued to unfold.

Panthers players and staff quickly surrounded Tremble, who appeared to be completely unconscious as he pulsed on the ground.

Chicago later took advantage of the turnover by driving 44 yards on three plays to take a 21-7 lead.

Bears running back D'Andre Swift moved the ball downfield on a 42-yard catch-and-run before scoring on a one-yard rush.

Caleb Williams later threw a touchdown pass in the final period of the second quarter to give the Bears a 27-7 halftime lead.

The incident came amid increasing fears about player safety around the league, just a week after Denver Broncos running back Tyler Badie collapsed on the sidelines.

Badie landed awkwardly with his head and neck on the MetLife Stadium turf during a Broncos game against the New York Jets before he managed to return to the sideline.

Just seconds later, he collapsed among his teammates and paramedics rushed to his aid.

Meanwhile, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered the third known concussion of his NFL career when he moved to the fencing position after being hit by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

Tremble had six catches on seven targets for 52 yards in three games this season prior to Sunday's Week 5 game.

The fourth-year tight end, a third-round pick of the Panthers out of Notre Dame, has 68 catches for 600 yards and seven touchdowns over his NFL career.
