“He took a leap”…Mike Tyson accuses Jake Paul of faking a Top 15 heavyweight sparring knockdown

Mike Tyson has claimed in viral fight camp footage that Jake Paul “dunked” a sparring partner.

The legendary heavyweight champion faces YouTuber and former boxer Paul on November 15th, and preparations for the fight are really starting to heat up. Last month, the controversial 10-1 cruiserweight contender shared a video of himself seemingly knocking down a teammate in sparring.

However, boxing icon Tyson believes the footage was fake and that his teammate went down on purpose. The man in the video is believed to be undefeated top contender DeAndre Savage, who has been at camp in Puerto Rico with Paul for the past few weeks.

Jake Paul fell out of the top 15 heavyweight division in a viral sparring video

Jake Paul made all sorts of headlines last month when he shared a video of one of his sparring sessions in which he knocked a teammate to the ground with his right hand. In the footage, captioned “Take notes,” he can be seen telling Tyson: “Don't charge at me.”

It was later revealed that the opponent Paul faced in the video was DeAndre Savage, a 6-0 heavyweight from Michigan. He had been spotted at camp with the social media star for some time, sharing shots of himself training in front of the infamous yellow 'W' screen.

The punch Paul landed, a massive overhand right, is one he is known to often throw in fights where he looks down and swings wildly. In the rematch in 2021, he managed to brutally knock out Tyron Woodley with a similar shot.

And it seemed to work for Savage, who was an amateur with solid experience before evolving into an undefeated pro. The Detroit native has even secured a spot in the WBA top 15 heavyweight division, making him a formidable opponent.

The fans were skeptical about the sparring footage

But as with everything Paul does, fans were skeptical about the legitimacy of his video. They claimed that the sparring partner was either not a good enough boxer or that this was somehow staged in subsequent comments.

The video has been viewed well over 10 million times across social media platforms, with commenters writing messages such as “I can guarantee Tyson won't attack you without moving his head like this guy” and “I like how Homeboy handled Sloppy.” Footwork.”

Some commentators claimed that Savage was a “paid actor”, while others added: “That was a terrible sparring partner.” However, it appears that the undefeated American is a pretty solid sparring partner who has given up his position with the WBA.

Mike Tyson claims Jake Paul's sparring partner crashed

It's not just the fans who aren't convinced by Paul's sparring video; Mike Tyson himself is also a bit dubious. “Iron Mike” recently appeared on Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman’s “Pound 4 Pound” podcast where he made the claim that Savage had gone underground.

Tyson couldn't remember the boxer's name but did reference the footage near the end of his discussion with the two UFC legends. Cejudo is an Olympic gold medalist and former UFC two-weight world champion, while Usman is considered one of the greatest welterweight world champions in history.

“Did you see his sparring session where the guy faked getting knocked down?” Tyson asked the hosts, who seemed confused by the question. “That was beautiful. The black man, a chubby black man, he fell, he jumped.

“I go straight through him, he doesn’t have to find me, I just run straight towards him. He doesn’t have to worry about finding me.”
