Here is the Outer Banks Season 4 Part 2 release date

Netflix got a little better about this for a while. You haven't split high-profile shows like Heartstopper or Nobody Wants This in half, but Outer Banks? Unfortunately, it could not escape this fate.

The release date for Outer Banks Season 4 Part 2 is a full month after Part 1 and will be released on November 7, 2024. That's when the next five episodes will be released. It's the first time in four seasons that the show has been cut in half like this, and when it was announced, fans were furious that Netflix's practice had finally caught up with their show.

The trend here tends to be that after the first season of a successful show, future seasons are cut in half to retain subscribers for an extra month. No more logging in, binging and canceling. There used to be the excuse that it was for production reasons, but Netflix doesn't even try to make that case anymore, it's simply a case of reluctance.

The practice significantly hinders storytelling while being inferior to the full binge model or the weekly, traditional broadcast format for allowing fans to talk about new developments. Here it's like watching two halves of a long film and waiting a month to pick up the second part. If that sounds ridiculous, that's basically exactly what's happening here. This also means that a season now has to be structured with some sort of stopping point or cliffhanger in the middle, whereas a normal binge series wouldn't have to worry about structuring itself that way.

For a streaming service that cares so much about completion rates, I can't imagine cutting literally half a season and moving it a month later will do anything. We recently saw the cancellation of That '90s Show after Season 2, a season that Netflix axed three Share, and I can't imagine that helped viewership in the slightest.

When Netflix will do this and when it won't remains somewhat unclear. I was surprised to see that Heartstopper didn't do it, but in terms of airtime I'm guessing it's not as popular as others. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story didn't make the cut either. But I would bet my left arm on a big series like Wednesday Season 2. I'm less sure about Squid Game Season 2, it could go either way. They do this less on foreign shows.

In any case, this is bad news for Outer Banks fans who only wanted to watch the new season here over the weekend and now have to wait until November 7th to finish. I really hope that Netflix eventually leaves this trend behind.
